Units we will cover this year! 6th Grade Social Studies covers the beginning of mankind through the year 1450 C.E. We will be taking time this year to discuss the following topics. With each unit we will focus on the themes of Geography, Religion, Accomplishments, Politics, Economics, and Social Structure (G.R.A.P.E.S) and their influence on each civilization.
In class we took time to go over all of the expectations of the classroom. Here is a general overview of what was discussed.
Grading Policy Assignments will be given category weights. Summative Assessments (Tests, Projects) - 40% Formative Assessments (Quizzes, DBQ’s, etc) - 30% Classwork (Warm-ups, notes, vocab, etc) - 20% Homework - 10% Late Work Late work will be accepted. 10 points will be deducted for every day that it is late. After 5 days the highest grade a student can earn is a 50. Please turn your work in on time! Reflect and Reset Here at River Bend Middle School we are implementing a process that will allow students who have not made good choices to reflect on what they done and correct the behavior. Each classroom has a Reflect and Reset station. These stations will serve as an area where a student who has not made good choice to correct the behavior. Students will complete a form which will ask them a series of questions such as “What happened? Who was affected? What can your teachers do to help YOU reset?” Sometimes students just need a minute to collect themselves and get their feelings written down. Once they have completed the form they will turn it in, return to their seats, and get back to work. The teacher will speak to them about what they wrote on their form and hopefully resolve the issue from occurring again. Consequences In my classroom students will have consequences for both positive behavior and negative behavior. I hope to offer more positive consequences then negative consequences this year!
